About Maria Aparisi:
Maria is a Lindy Hop and Authentic Solo Jazz dancer based in Valencia, Spain. Maria has danced practically all her life. The daughter of two dancers, she practiced ballet and other classical dance disciplines from an early age. She started dancing lindy hop in October 2013, thanks to the recommendation of a friend who knew she was passionate about jazz music. Since then, her training as a lindy hop dancer has been combined with learning blues, authentic jazz and tap.
Her passion for this dance led her to become interested in understanding the social issues involved, an interest that manifested itself in the development of a doctoral research. Her thesis studies the representation of the African-American body in Hollywood musical cinema of the 1930s.
About Johan Selander:
Since finding swing dancing in Stockholm and at the famous dance camp in Herrang 2011 “Selle” has loved to swing out. Traveling around the world both dancing, competing, and performing has given him the opportunity to meet many new wonderful dancers. One of them is Maria, who will now join him in Copenhagen to teach together.
The thrill of finding flow with a partner, exploring rhythms and partnership is one of the reasons that has kept Johan devoted to the swing dance scene. Equally rewarding for him is the joy of teaching, watching students grow and feeling the happiness that swing dancing brings.
