Workshop Overview

THURSDAY 18/5

✤ Beginner Air Steps ✤

Time: 20.30-22.00
Description: In this workshop, you will learn some great traditional and modern Air Steps. Focus is on not only teaching you the airsteps, but also training you in how to mix it into your partner dancing.
Airsteps to work on: Frog Jump, Swing Out Jump & Sack of potatoes
Please note: It is mandatory to sign up as a dance couple, because we’ll not change partners.
Level: The workshop is aimed at dancers with little or no experience in air steps or physical training.

SATURDAY 20/5

✤ Unexpected Stretch ✤

Time: 10.00 – 11.30
Description: One of the most used techniques is the stretch, that is, the sensation or effect that both dancers move away, while being connected in an elastic stretch. In this workshop we will work on the sensations of elasticity in dance in less conventional moments, to create new fun steps.
Level: Beginner – Intermediate (Swing 3 – Swing 6)

✤ Stealing ✤

Time: 12.30 – 14.00
Description: As part of the Lindy Hop culture, either in a Jam or just playing with dance partners, we sometimes “steal” a dancer during the dance to form a new couple or join the dance. Although it is a game, doing it smoothly and with a natural effect requires control of the steps and connection. We will see simple and advanced ways for both roles.
Level: Intermediate (Swing 4 – Swing 6)

SUNDAY 21/5

✤ Musicality: Syncopation ✤

Time: 10.00 – 11.30
Description: The musical concept of syncopation can be applied to dance, and even more so to swing dance. In class, in addition to understanding well what syncopation is, we will incorporate it into our footwork individually and eventually how to lead and follow it.
Level: Intermediate – Advanced (Swing 6 – Swing 😎

✤ Over-rotations and under-rotations ✤

Time: 12.30 – 14.00
Description: Directional changes have a great effect on many Lindy Hop steps. This dynamic sometimes can feel forced, with excess tension or lack of balance. In this class, we will adjust the connection, axis, and footwork for smooth and controlled over-rotations.
Level: Intermediate – Advanced (Swing 6 – Swing 😎

More about Manuel

Manuel started to dance Swing in 2003. When he got into the traditional jazz and improvisation world, he found the prefect way to express himself and to share his art with people.
He studied with local teachers and took clases in Europe with the best dancers of the world. He combined his training with martial arts, contact improvisation, theater and circus for several years. He has also studied tap and body percussion, disciplines that he’s still practicing.
He is the organizer of Swingin’ Festival (a Lindy Hop and Tap event), Swing Break Camp, and Campeonato Porteño de Swing (the first swing championships in Southamerica). Currently, he organizes swing parties and he is the producer of the jazz band Brazofuerte All Stars.
Manu participated in several shows as a swing dancer, and won different prizes in competitions. He teaches Lindy Hop, involving not just his heart and dance knowledge in each class, but also modern educational techniques to transmit what each student needs.
