Level Description

Swing 2

Description
Swing 2 is a continuation from the Swing 1 course (Beginners Course). We will keep on working on the basic moves and techniques, and we will introduce a new type of footwork: the 8 count. The main focus of this course will be on learning the famous Swingout. We will also teach you how to switch between 6-count and 8-count moves in both groove-walk and triple step rhythm, and how to integrate them into your dancing. You will also learn the 30s Charleston (the "evolved" version of 20s Charleston, with kicks), and its basic variations, such as Kick-Through and Hand-to-Hand.

Level guidance
You need to complete the Swing 1 course to be able to join this class. If you come from another school, you need to have at least 2 months of swing dance experience to be able to join this class. (e.g. completed level Newcomers in SwingShoes, or completed Level 2 in Hepcats)

Swing 3

Description
Swing 3 is a continuation from the Swing 2 course. We will add more 8 count moves (e.g. Outside Turn), and styling variations (e.g. Swivels). We will introduce fast turns on the spot for both followers and leaders. We will teach you how to do the 6-count moves, which you have previously learned, with the more fast-paced and energetic kick steps. You will also be introduced to Tandem Charleston and its basic variations.

Level guidance
You need to complete the Swing 2 course to be able to join this class. If you come from another school, you need to have at least 4 months of swing dance experience to be able to join this class. (e.g. completed level Beginners A in SwingShoes, or completed Level 3 in Hepcats)

Swing 4

Description
Swing 4 is a continuation from the Swing 3 course. From this level and up, the class material becomes more open and is adjusted to the needs of the class participants. You will learn more swingout variations (e.g. Texas Tommy), more 30s Charleston variations (e.g. S-turn to Tandem Charleston),  as well as turns with traveling in both triple step and Groove-Walk rhythm. You will also learn how to spice up your footwork with small variations.

Level guidance
You need to complete the Swing 3 course to be able to join this class. If you come from another school, you need to have at least 6 months of swing dance experience to be able to join this class. (e.g. completed level Beginners B in SwingShoes, or completed Level 3 in Hepcats)

Swing 5

Description
Swing 5 is a continuation from the Swing 4 course. The class material on this level is more open and it is adjusted to the needs of the class participants. You will learn some of the more complex moves, such as: Sugar Push, Sailor Step, Barrel Roll, and Airplane Charleston. The main points of focus will be connection exercises, turning technique and footwork variations.

Level guidance
You need to complete the Swing 4 course to be able to join this class. If you come from another school, you need to have at least 8 months of swing dance experience to be able to join this class. (e.g. completed level Beginners Intermediate A in SwingShoes, or at least one round on Level 4 in Hepcats)

Swing 6 - Theme (see themes here)

Description
Swing 6 - Theme is a continuation from the Swing 5 course. It is a course for dancers on intermediate level, who want to expand their vocabulary of moves and techniques.  You are expected to stay on this level for at least a few rounds of classes before moving on to the higher level. To keep the classes fresh and interesting, each round will have a different theme, always with new moves and variations.

Themes in Round 1, 2019:

Swing 6 Monday
- Old Moves Revisited (w/ Kuno & Gosia)
Do you recognize this situation: you take weekly classes and weekend workshops, you collect more and more new moves and variations, and... after a month or two your forget more than half of them.
We have an idea how to fix it! Let's get a bit nostalgic and let's go back to all the cool moves you've learned so far, but somehow managed to forget along the way. In this course we will go through the most essential of the moves from Swing 1 to Swing 5. For each move we will work on the technique needed to master the move and try new variations of the move.

Swing 6 Wednesday
- Role Swapping
 (w/ Miranda & Malene)
Leading and following are completely different experiences, both roles having their own unique challenges and joys. In this course you get to try the other side of the equation, allowing you to get a better understanding of the dance as a whole.
The course is only for people who already have a good understanding of either leading or following and who want to try to swap roles. So while everyone will be new to their roles, the course will progress a lot faster than a normal beginner’s class, since rhythm and connection techniques will be concepts familiar to everyone participating.
Note: Remember to sign up with the role you will be dancing in class, i.e. if you are normally a follower, but you want to learn how to lead, choose "leader" when signing up. And vice versa.

Swing 6 Thursday
- Slow Dancing
 (w/ Kuno & Gosia)
Not sure what to do when the bands play one of their slower tunes? Want to learn how you can implement your lindy hop moves when the music is even too slow for triple steps? Then this theme is for you! We will explore what kind of steps can be used for the slowest of music and how we can transform our lindy hop moves to fit this slower pace.

Level guidance
You don’t have to audition for this class, but you need to complete the Swing 5 course to be able to join. If you come from another school, you need to have at least 10 months of swing dance experience to be able to join this class. (e.g. completed level Beginners Intermediate B in SwingShoes, or at least two rounds on Level 4 in Hepcats)

Swing 7 - Intense

Intense TrackDescription
Swing 7 - Intense is our nerdy track for experienced dancers, where we focus mainly on technique and quality of the dance. At least once during each round we have a Personal Feedback class, where the students are asked to film each other and give each other feedback on a given technique.

The content of this course is partly shaped by the students. At the beginning of each round we ask the students what techniques and moves they would like to work on, and we incorporate their wishes into the course material.

Level guidance
You need to complete at least one round of Swing 6 - Theme before auditioning for Swing 7 - Intense. If you are a fast learner, you can try to audition directly after finishing the Swing 5 course.
If you come from another school, you need to have at least 12 months of swing dance experience to be able to go to the audition. (e.g. completed level Intermediate in SwingShoes, or at least one round on Level 5 in Hepcats).

Obligatory Level Placement for new participants
To ensure a high level in class, all new participants will have to come to Level Placement first, to be accepted to the course. Once you have been accepted, you can continue taking classes on this level in the future rounds as well, without having to come to Level Placement again.

See more info about Level Placement underneath.

Swing 8 - Advanced

Description
Swing 8 - Advanced is the highest level in Happy Feet Studio. It is dedicated to experienced and skilled dancers, who want to keep on improving their dancing - the Lindy Hop addicts. The class will be kept small, so that the teachers can give in-depth feedback to the individual students. This class is also meant to be an offer for the teachers of Happy Feet Studio, who will be joining the class to expand their vocabulary.

Level guidance
This is the highest level of classes in Happy Feet Studio. We recommend taking at least one round of classes on Swing 7 - Intense before signing up for the Advanced level.

Obligatory Level Placement for new participants
To ensure a high level in class, all new participants will have to come to Level Placement first, to be accepted to the course. Once you have been accepted, you can continue taking classes on this level in the future rounds as well, without having to come to Level Placement again.

How will it work?

Each person coming to Level Placement, will dance with one of our teachers and will afterwards be advised what level is best for them. It will take about approx. 5 min per person. There might be some waiting time though, depending on how many people show up.

Is it necessary to register for Level Placement?

No, you just show up on the day. Solo followers might want to register for the chosen course even before the Level Placement date, to secure their spot in class. If you register and pay for a course, but are later advised to register for another level, you can of course choose to transfer your registration the other course, or get a refund in case it clashes with your schedule.

Do I need to come with a partner?

No. You will be dancing with one of our teachers, so you don't need to come with a partner.

Do I need to come to Level Placement again if I want to continue taking classes on Swing 7 / Swing 8 next round?

No. Once you have been accepted to Swing 7 or Swing 8, you can continue taking classes on this level in the future rounds as well, without having to come to Level Placement again.

If you want to move up from Swing 7 to Swing 8 though, you will need to come to Level Placement again.
