You will also watch stunning old footage, featuring many of Lindy Hop's defining moments.

AFTER THE WORKHOP: JOIN A SHORT VIDEO WATCHING SESSSION

After the workshop in The California routine, we would like to show you a few historical short films with The California Routine in focus.

Some of the films will feature Frankie Manning, who choreographed The California Routine for the movie Hellzapoppin’ back in the 1930s.

We have chosen several different short films from the period between the 1930s - 1940s and from the 1980s -1990s, with a specific film clip from 1995 (Radio City Music Hall NY).

In that clip, Frankie Manning talks about how Aerials originated in NY Harlem in the 1930s, and how the Lindy Hop dance and culture has continued into the 1980s. In this period in the 80’s, Frankie resumed teaching the Lindy Hop in collaboration with Erin Stevens - after a long break. During the same period, Lennart Westerlund and The Rhythm Hot Shots contacted Frankie in New York and had him teach at the Herrang Dance Camp.

The reason for choosing videos from both these two time periods is to show how Lindy Hop culture and tradition has prevailed and evolved over the decades and into our time.

The film watching session will last approx. 20 - 30min. We will show it on a big screen in our café directly after the workshop, where you can buy a beer or a soda. We will also serve some popcorn on the house 🙂
